Recital: 24 Songs

Laura will present a recital in September 2019 in Boston titled 24 SONGS

Nearly every singer is familiar with the famous ‘24 Italian Songs & Arias’ book. Many young vocalists begin their classical journey with this anthology, and older singers look back on their time with ‘The Yellow Book’ as a time capsule of the singer they were when they first approached these songs.

Laura is ready to make a new time capsule, selecting 24 Songs & Arias that she feels feel represent her at this moment (including 2 selections from the 24 Songs book, just as she begins to pass these songs along to her own students).

Exact date to be announced.

By Richard Strauss

Libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal

In Die ägyptische Helena, librettist Hugo von Hofmannsthal asks “What lay between that dreadful night and the complete reconciliation that followed? What can have helped rebuild this marriage as a true companionship?” Richard Strauss’s two-act opera is both an intimate and emotional story about Helen and her husband Menelas. Ten years after Helen left her husband to be with Paris, this opera imagines life after her return home. Or was it a phantom who went to Troy, leaving the beautiful Helen sleeping in Sparta all along? With goddesses, sorceresses, and elves to help spin the tale, will Menelas find forgiveness in his heart for his wife? Come experience this lush and dramatic work, a rare offering by one of opera’s greatest creative teams.

Laura is a member of the professional ensemble.

Competition Winners Concert

Laura performed at the winners concert for the Longy School of Music 2018 Honors Competition, selected across multiple rounds by judges representing some of the biggest names in classical music in Boston. Competition entrants were from all disciplines and styles, both instrumental & vocal, jazz & classical, from historical performance to musical theatre.

For this competition and recital Laura cultivated a set of songs by 4 different composers (Loewe, Schubert, Spohr, and Wagner) who all set the same poem ('Meine Ruh' Ist Hin' from Goethe's Faust), inspired by her love of the Schubert Lied setting.

Bad Bitches Sing Shit: A Recital

Laura presented a recital in May 2018 titled “Bad Bitches Sing Shit” at the historic Stillman Willis House in Cambridge, MA. This recital took a lighthearted look at the themes that often arise in opera, including ‘Happy Bitches’, ‘Sad Bitches’, and ‘Bitches in Love’, and sought to provide an entry point to the genre to those who were not already opera fans.
